Alienware 17 inch Laptop Series Complete Review

Alienware has a track record of creating highly-desired models that serious gamers will purchase at any price and the new Alienware 17in laptop series does not stop this trend. They have a huge fan base thanks to their high performance, modern and elegant appearance, and enticing gaming components. Though the price tag may seem high, they actually offer superior performance at a fraction of the cost of similar laptops. However, the strong performance comes at a price: a limited battery life.

Alienware Area 51M Gaming Laptop, 17.3″ 300HZ 3MS FHD Display, Intel Core I7-10700K, NVidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super 8GB GDDR6, 1TB SSD, 16GB Ram, Lunar Light (AWARR2-7323WHT-Pus)

The Alienware Area 51M Gaming laptop has NVidia Geforce RTX 2070 and comes with a CPU model Core i7, one of the world’s most powerful laptop CPUs. The desktop-level processing capability, CPU and GPU upgrades, sophisticated cooling, and a premium, innovative design make the Alienware Area 51M one of the finest gaming laptops.

Design

The Alienware Area-51m defies the stereotype of the “gaming laptop.” Despite being enormous, this laptop has a lovely, simple design. The Alienware Area-51m is 1.7 inches in depth and weighs a hefty 8.54 pounds. It’s actually lighter and thinner than the MSI GT75 Titan, but you probably won’t notice since it’s unlikely that you’ll be hauling it about.

The Alienware Area-51m is available in two stunning color options: Lunar Light (white) and Dark Side of the Moon (black). In the front and around the vents on the back of the Lunar Light variant, there are black accents on a white chassis.

Screen Size

The 17.3″ screen on this laptop is a fantastic panel size, with enough physical visibility and actual area for 2022 games to be effectively seen. It eliminates the issue of squinting to see menu text in games which might be a problem when using smaller computers.

Refresh Rate

If you want a gaming laptop, look for one with a refresh rate higher than 60Hz. This means that the laptop’s frame rate will be limited to 60 frames per second when playing games. The smoother the gameplay is, the higher the refresh rate and FPS since it sends more pictures per second to your screen and makes the game feel more responsive. This laptop comes with a refresh rate of 300Hz as an option. When it comes to screen refresh rates, it’s a good pick for gamers.

Processor

For 2022 games, the Core i7-10700K 8-Core is an excellent gaming CPU. AAA games frequently require more cores to perform appropriately and avoid hurdles. This laptop boasts an 8-core CPU, which is ideal for current games.

Advanced Eye Tracking

The Alienware 51M Gaming laptop features Tobii eye-tracking. This next-generation eye-tracking tracking brings a whole new level of immersion to your game. Smaller sensors with wake capabilities enable features and sensitivity for tracking head attitude, face ID, presence, soft gaze, and eye position.

Game-Enhancing Features

The n-key rollover feature on the TactX keyboard allows for over 103 key commands on the Alienware 51M Gaming laptop. It also features 2.5Gbps Ethernet. The Ethernet enables gamers to double the standard wired connections for blazing-fast file transfers.

In addition, this multi-purpose port can be used as a USB 3.0 port, with a data transmission rate of 10Gbps. The high-quality speakers can help you smoothly hear every sound for each different game.

Battery Life

The Alienware Area-51m lasted 2 hours and 3 minutes in the PCMark 8 battery test. Although it doesn’t sound like much, Alienware’s laptop performs significantly better than something like the MSI GT75 Titan, which lasts only one hour and 39 minutes in the same test.

Alienware M17 R4, 17.3 Inch FHD (Full HD) Gaming Laptop – Intel Core I7-10870H, 16GB DDR4 Ram, 1TB SSD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6, Windows 10 Home – Lunar Light

The Alienware m17 R4 is more than a powerhouse. This laptop sports a stylish sci-fi-inspired design with lots of RGB and a quick (optional) mechanical keyboard. However, you’ll have to put up with a heavy chassis along with some fan noise now and again.

Design

The regular keyboard includes a four-zone RGB, the rear edge, the alien head on the back of the lid, and a customizable power button. In addition, per-key illumination is available with the optional keyboard upgrade and the mechanical keyboard.

The chassis is built of high-quality components, including magnesium alloy painted in matte white and sealed with a clear finish for further durability. In addition, Alienware’s cryo-tech cooling technology is used throughout the inside, including 12-phase graphics voltage regulation, 6-phase CPU voltage regulation, and a CPU vapor chamber.

There is a black ring around the ventilation and the RGB lighting strip that runs down the back vent is very prominent. There are several connectors located between the two enormous vents on the back of the laptop, including HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, power, and the exclusive Alienware Graphics Amplifier plug for an external GPU.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The Alienware m17 R4 comes with two keyboards: a regular mSeries keyboard with a snappy feel and an optional mechanical keyboard that may be the best out of any laptop keyboard.

The Ultralow Profile switches provide 1.8mm of travel in a 3.5mm-high box, giving them a luxurious look. They offer a satisfying clicky sensation and the sound of an external keyboard without adding any weight to the laptop. However, they must be actuated with a firm 65 grams of force.

You receive a complete numeric keypad and four configurable macro keys above the pad on the top row, regardless of which keyboard you pick. You can configure them to launch an application, type text, or utilize a pre-recorded set of keystrokes.

Audio

The audio system of the Alienware m17 R4 produces a sound that is loud enough to fill a medium-sized room. The Alienware Command Centre program consists of an audio area where you can adjust sound settings and select from specific sound profiles, including Music, Movie, Shooter, and Role Play.

Heat

The primary touchpoints on the Alienware m17 R4 keep pretty cold when you’re not gaming and while gaming they stay warm but comfortable. For example, the keyboard reaches a comfortable 35.5 degrees Celsius (95.9 degrees Fahrenheit) after 15 minutes of YouTube video playback. On the other hand, the touchpad was a cold 26.2 degrees Celsius (79.3 degrees Fahrenheit), and the underbelly was only 36.6 degrees Celsius (97.9 degrees Fahrenheit).

Performance

With an Intel Core i7-10870HK, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, the Alienware m17 R4 is loaded and quick. This gaming laptop is a true powerhouse, pushing the available hardware to its ultimate limit, which accounts for the loud fan.

Software and Warranty

The Alienware m17 R4 comes with several essential first-party tools preinstalled. Alienware Mobile Connect allows you to operate your Android or iPhone from the laptop and receive phone calls and texts. The Alienware Command Centre will enable you to control all RGB lighting effects, configure keyboard macros, and tune audio settings. You can even change performance and thermal settings for more incredible performance or quieter sounds and cooler temperatures. Finally, if you have an unlocked CPU and wish to try overclocking, you may manually alter the maximum frequency, voltage, and voltage offset.

Alienware M17 Gaming Notebook | 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H 6-Core | 17.3 Inch FHD 1920×1080 60Hz IPS | 16GB Ram 2666MHz DDR4 RAM | 512GB SSD| NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max Q

The Alienware M17 Gaming Notebook Core i7-8750H is a sleek 17-inch Alienware laptop. It’s a powerful laptop with magnesium alloy construction, long battery life, and CPU dynamic overclocking.

Design

The Alienware M17 Gaming Notebook is ideal for gaming on the road. It has the screen of a 17-inch gaming laptop but is also fragile and light. At 5.8 pounds (2.6 kilograms), the m17 is roughly 4 pounds less than Alienware’s last 17-inch laptop, the R5 17. It’s even lighter than Razer’s 17-inch laptop, which is impressive given Razer’s reputation for ultra-thin gaming laptops.

The M17 is also not as flashy as other of Alienware’s previous laptops. For example, the base rim that stands over the hinge is gone, and Alienware has dramatically reduced the amount of mother ship-style angles and shapes, except for some problematic fan vents.

Despite the presence of the Alienware logo and power button, the M17 is less distinctive than most previous Alienware laptops. Whether you count this as a positive or a negative thing depends on how much you liked the company’s past, borderline bold looks. Regardless, a slimmer, lighter Alien is unquestionably a step forward.

Innovative Command Center

You now have complete control over the hardware and software setups of your M17 Gaming Notebook. You can customize the hardware, space, and structure (for each gameplay) without compromising gameplay and other activities.

The Innovative Alienware Command Center, which offers Razer-like keyboard customization, may be used to dress up the m17’s appearance. You can make the lights on your keyboard flash in a rainbow pattern or make your keys pulsate rhythmically.

The natural interface connects all of your system settings to a gaming library, making it simple to obtain gaming data. The command center lets you quickly access your games along with an opportunity to fine-tune parameters for each one, regardless of the source. You can also create a unique game profile that will stay the same no matter where you launch it.

Seamless Gameplay & Graphics

The Alienware m17 boasts a powerful 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8750H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q Design with 8GB GDDR6 graphics for seamless gaming and other activities.

When the stakes are high, smooth fast-motion pictures are essential. With an FHD (1920 x 1080) display and a refresh rate of 60Hz for high-speed frame rates, the M17 Gaming Notebook provides a captivating and immersive in-game experience.

The GeForce RTX 2070 is a powerful new graphics card that uses NVIDIA’s cutting-edge Turing architecture to immerse you in astonishing realism and performance in the latest games. The GeForce RTX 2070 is a step above the competition, with ground-breaking real-time ray-tracing capabilities for cutting-edge and hyper-realistic graphics.

Alienware Cryo-Tech V2.0

The Dual-Intake, Dual-Exhaust Airflow Design is a small, light chassis with a dual fan design that takes cool air in from the bottom and top vents. At the same time, the exhaust is released from the back and side vents for optimal cooling of the main components.

The 0.2mm blades, sleeve bearings, and 3-phase fan control on the fire-resistant liquid-crystal polymer fan reduce friction and improve air circulation. The Alienware m17’s graphics-side fan boasts 60% larger fan blades than the Alienware m15’s. Additionally, the thermal activity of essential components, such as the GPU and CPU, is intelligently discharged through a network of specialized and shared 8mm and 6mm copper-composite heat pipes.

The Cryo-Tech v2.0 ensures that 100 percent of the system’s GPU thermal design power is activated while simultaneously providing high performance for CPU-intensive games.

Dell Alienware Area 51M Laptop, 17.3″ FHD (1920 x 1080), 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700K, 16GB (2x8GB) RAM, 256GB SSD + 1TB SSHD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, Windows 10 Home

The Dell Alienware Area 51M Laptop Core i7-9700K has incredible performance levels due to its excellent desktop hardware, fantastic screen, and sleek design.

Design & Build

The Alienware Area 51M features a new Alienware legend design that is more streamlined and less aggressive than prior Alienware notebooks. The wrist rest and lid are both coated in a soft, matte black finish, while the remainder of the case is built of magnesium alloy. The vents and angles of previous Alienware laptops have mostly vanished, and the new design features reduced screen bezels.

The Alienware head on the lid, the logo-shaped power button, keyboard, and trackpad all include RGB LEDs. However, behind the screen is Alienware’s most bizarre design. The metal is perforated with hexagonal cooling vents, and the backside bulks up to a thickness of 31mm. The vents are surrounded by a band of RGB LEDs, the laptop’s largest lighting area.

The screen and base are both substantial, and the wrist rest only falls when applying a lot of strain. Because the Alienware is so large, it weighs 3.87kg and is 31mm thick, but the build quality is excellent.

The Area-51m has plenty of capacity to handle all of your peripherals. There are two USB 3.1 ports on the right side of the device. A second one is on the left and has a Thunderbolt 3 connector as well as ports for the microphone and headphones. Between the back vents are two DC ports, along with an HDMI 2.0 port, a small DisplayPort, and a Gigabit Ethernet jack.

Additionally, you can connect the Alienware’s Graphic Amplifier if the Area-51M’s power isn’t sufficient for you.

Keypad & Trackpad

Although the look of the Area 51M is fresh, the optimizations will make long-time Alienware fans feel right at home. It’s not a chiclet keyboard but has an excellent layout: there are five discrete macro keys, giant cursor buttons, and four extra configurable buttons above the number pad.

The keys feature a comfortable 2.2mm travel, and the device is reinforced with a steel plate underneath. It also has anti-ghosting and n-key rollover to make it well-suited to gaming needs. The typing is accurate and quick, but the keys are too soft. This keyboard may resemble a mechanical keyboard, but it does not feel like one.

The trackpad is quick and smooth, but the two separate buttons are mushy and press down too far. Use a mouse if you’re serious about gaming.

Display & Audio

The Alienware Area 51M features an FHD IPS panel with Nvidia G-Sync and a 144Hz maximum refresh rate, which is a respectable specification. The addition of G-Sync ensures that games will run at buttery-smooth framerates, and the graphics technology can easily do that.

The level of quality is excellent. The screen has a Delta E of 1.69, which is well over the threshold at which human eyes detect the variation. The color temperature of 6,950K is a little cool but not enough to be noticeable. In a nutshell, colors are highly realistic, with a whopping 95 percent sRBG.

The speakers are fantastic: they’re pretty loud and have superb clarity. As a result, they’re easily suitable for use when playing video games and films.

Performance

The Area-51m is equipped with a 3.6-GHz 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9900K desktop processor and 64 and 16GB of RAM. This is the first Alienware to offer 8 cores because of the Intel Z390 chipset.

Final Thoughts

The 17-inch Alienware gaming laptop series focuses on gaming laptops with a gorgeous futuristic style. The 17-inch Alienware series is one of the most inventive and best laptop series, featuring giants in terms of performance, build, and design. These laptops can be pretty expensive but if you’re searching for a powerful gaming laptop Alienware is a great option, especially if the price isn’t a concern and quality is more important to you.
